The ranking format
Top five eligible North Half teams in each of 5 classifications, plus an overall North Half Top 10.
7A · 6A · 5A · 4A · Class I
MHSAA Regions 1–2 in 5A, 6A and 7A; Regions 1–4 in 4A and Class I. Class I is the combined small-school soccer division. Boys’ and girls’ eligibility is checked separately.
Each edition will show team records, movement from the previous edition, the results cutoff and the reasoning behind each selection.
How we rank boys soccer
Season results, opponent strength and quality wins lead the evaluation, with separate boys’ and girls’ lists.
A draw carries half-win credit in record comparisons. Regulation draws and penalty-shootout advancement are distinguished when reported by the source.
Head-to-head, common opponents and the last five matches inform close calls. Goal margins beyond three add no ranking credit.
These are editorial rankings. Broadcast coverage, sponsorships, fan voting and program reputation do not earn ranking credit. The overall list keeps teams from the same class in the same order as their class list.
